What Does It Mean?

Renal disease is a condition in which the kidneys lose their ability to effectively filter waste, regulate electrolytes, and maintain fluid balance. This dysfunction leads to toxin accumulation, electrolyte imbalances, and increased systemic inflammation, affecting overall health.

How Did We Get There?

Root Causes:

  • Chronic Hypertension – High blood pressure damages kidney filtration structures.
  • Diabetes & Insulin Resistance – Elevated blood sugar levels contribute to glomerular damage.
  • Toxin Accumulation – Heavy metals and environmental toxins stress kidney function.
  • Chronic Inflammation & Oxidative Stress – Contributes to progressive kidney damage.
  • Electrolyte Imbalances & Dehydration – Impair filtration efficiency and waste elimination.

Signs & Symptoms:

  • Fatigue and muscle weakness
  • Fluid retention and swelling (edema)
  • Decreased urine output or foamy urine
  • High blood pressure and difficulty managing hypertension
  • Muscle cramps and neurological symptoms due to electrolyte imbalances
  • Nausea, poor appetite, and difficulty concentrating

Lab Test Findings

Lab Test Name Expected Change Optimal Range
AST (SGOT) Increased 10.00-26.00 IU/L
Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) Increased 10.00-16.00 mg/dL
Broad Cast Present/Abnormal None
BUN : Creatinine Ratio Increased 10.00-16.00 Ratio
Epithelial Cells (Renal) Increased 15-20 /hpf
Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH) Increased 140.00-200.00 U/L
Phosphorus (Phosphate) Increased 3.00-4.00 mg/dL
Protein Positive Negative
RBC’s Present None
Uric Acid (Male) Increased 3.50-4.50 mg/dL

How Do We Treat It?

Additional Lifestyle Interventions:

  • Optimize Hydration: Ensure consistent water intake to support kidney function.
  • Reduce Sodium & Protein Intake: Prevents excessive metabolic burden on the kidneys.
  • Support Detoxification Pathways: Consume antioxidant-rich foods and avoid nephrotoxic substances.
  • Manage Blood Pressure & Blood Sugar: Regulate glucose and hypertension to slow disease progression.
  • Improve Electrolyte Balance: Monitor potassium, magnesium, and phosphorus to prevent complications.
