What Does It Mean?

Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) is a neurological condition characterized by an irresistible urge to move the legs, often accompanied by discomfort or tingling sensations. Symptoms typically worsen at night and can interfere with sleep and overall quality of life. The condition is often linked to mineral imbalances, neurotransmitter dysregulation, and metabolic dysfunction.

How Did We Get There?

Root Causes:

  • Mineral Deficiencies – Low magnesium, iron, and B vitamins contribute to neuromuscular dysfunction.
  • Dopaminergic Imbalance – Impaired dopamine signaling affects movement regulation.
  • Chronic Inflammation & Oxidative Stress – Systemic inflammation can worsen neural excitability.
  • Impaired Sleep & Circadian Rhythm Dysfunction – Poor sleep quality exacerbates symptoms.
  • Kidney Disease & Metabolic Disorders – Associated with impaired mineral balance and electrolyte shifts.

Signs & Symptoms:

  • Uncontrollable urge to move the legs, especially at night
  • Tingling, burning, or crawling sensations in the legs
  • Disrupted sleep patterns and difficulty falling asleep
  • Temporary relief with movement
  • Daytime fatigue due to poor sleep
  • Increased severity during periods of inactivity

How Do We Treat It?

Functional Medicine Approach:

Addressing Restless Leg Syndrome involves correcting mineral imbalances, improving neurotransmitter function, and optimizing metabolic health.

Supplement Protocol:

Supplement Function Dosage & Frequency
Magnesium Supports neuromuscular relaxation and neurotransmitter balance 2 capsules with or without food, daily
Vita B Methyl Provides essential B vitamins for nervous system support 1 capsule without food,  daily
Endura Helps maintain electrolyte balance and hydration 1 packet with or without food, daily

Additional Lifestyle Interventions:

  • Optimize Magnesium & Iron Intake: Include leafy greens, nuts, seeds, and lean proteins.
  • Improve Sleep Hygiene: Establish a regular bedtime routine and reduce blue light exposure.
  • Support Dopamine Function: Reduce caffeine and alcohol intake, and incorporate movement.
  • Enhance Hydration & Electrolyte Balance: Maintain adequate water and mineral intake.
  • Manage Stress & Reduce Inflammation: Use relaxation techniques like meditation and deep breathing exercises.
