What Does It Mean?

Autoimmune dysfunction occurs when the immune system mistakenly targets and attacks healthy tissues, leading to chronic inflammation, tissue damage, and organ dysfunction. The severity and impact depend on the specific autoimmune disease, but all share a common root cause of immune dysregulation.

How Did We Get There?

Root Causes:

• Gut Dysbiosis & Increased Intestinal Permeability ("Leaky Gut") – Disruptions in the gut microbiome contribute to immune system hyperactivity.

• Chronic Inflammation – Persistent inflammation due to diet, infections, or environmental triggers fuels autoimmunity.

• Toxin Exposure – Heavy metals, mold, and other toxins can trigger or exacerbate immune dysfunction.

• Nutrient Deficiencies – Deficiencies in Vitamin D, Omega-3s, and antioxidants weaken immune regulation.

• Chronic Stress & Adrenal Dysfunction – Excess cortisol and adrenal dysregulation impact immune balance.

• Genetic Predisposition – Some individuals have a higher likelihood of developing autoimmunity due to genetic factors.

Signs & Symptoms:

• Chronic fatigue

• Joint pain and stiffness

• Brain fog and cognitive dysfunction

• Digestive issues (bloating, diarrhea, constipation)

• Skin rashes (eczema, psoriasis, vitiligo)

• Sensitivity to cold or heat

• Frequent infections or lingering illnesses

• Unexplained weight fluctuations

Additional Lifestyle Interventions:

• Gut Health Optimization – Remove gluten, dairy, processed foods, and inflammatory triggers. Increase fiber and fermented foods to nourish gut microbiota.

• Stress Management – Meditation, deep breathing, and mindfulness reduce stress-induced immune overactivity.

• Detoxification Support – Increase hydration, use sauna therapy, and consume cruciferous vegetables for liver detox.

• Sleep & Circadian Rhythm Balance – Prioritize 7-9 hours of high-quality sleep to support immune regulation.
